A crossroad for peoples’ friendship and collaboration,
the annual “Thessaloniki International Fair – HELEXPO”
in the autumn, attracts thousands of visitors from
all over the world and it has been since 1926 established
as a pilot exhibition of new technological achievements
on an international level. With time it has gained
in reputation and grown in size and importance, today
representing the greatest trade fair of its kind in
the region. The fair grounds are situated at the very
heart of the city, and this, together with its numerous
successful events has helped the institution to become
the hub of all commercial, cultural and sporting life
of Thessaloniki. The Fair grounds include a number
of impressive buildings, such as the Telecommunications
Tower, the Alexandrion Sports Hall and the state-of-the-art
Conference Hall. The main event staged annually at
the beginning of September is the International Fair.
Throughout the year, however, the many display pavilions
and other facilities to be found on the grounds, are
used to host other specialised exhibitions, conferences
and cultural events.
