For winter sports lovers Thessaloniki is located near the most famous ski resorts in Northern Greece. Seli and 3-5 Pigadia on the snowy slopes of Mount Vermio, but also Elatochori and Kaimaktsalan are easily accessible from Thessaloniki and ideal destinations of a daily winter excursion.
The National Ski Resort in Seli was founded in 1934 and is located at an altitude of 1530 meters. It is the first organized ski resort in Greece. At a distance of just 95 km. from Thessaloniki, Seli offers ample parking, many modern lifts for the comfortable and expedient service of skiers, many and varied courses both for recreational and sports skiing, children’s play areas, endurance ski tracks, where international competitive events may be hosted and, overall, is a ski resort where the simultaneous and comfortable exercise of thousands of skiers can be witnessed on a daily basis.
The ski resort “3-5 Pigadia” is located at an altitude of 1430-2005 meters on the western slope of Mt. Vermio. At a distance of 108km. from Thessaloniki the turnpike road stays open throughout the winter season. A system of artificial snowing ensures the excellent quality of snow throughout the winter. Besides winter sports, 3-5 Pigadia also offer many other activities (climbing, trekking, mountain biking, hang gliding and paragliding).
The ski resort of Elatochori is located on the eastern slope of the Pierian Mountain Range at an altitude of 800 meters and is 105km. away from Thessaloniki and just 8km. away from traditional settlement “Elatochori”. There is a 2 seat aerial lift, 2 drag lifts, 2 baby lifts, 150m. long each, and 13.5 km. of piste.
The ski resort in Kaimaktsalan was named after the mountain on which it is located. The origin of the word “Kaimaktsalan” is Turkish and its literal meaning is the thief of “kaimak”, that is of froth. Kaimaktsalan is located on lake Vegoritida, near the refurbished village of Agios Athanasios and 120km. away from Thessaloniki. It offers four lifts as well as an artificial snow system. Winter tourism aficionados pick up your skiing equipment and come to enjoy it!
